Two weeks. A finished film. A red carpet premiere.
Two weeks. A finished film.
A red carpet premiere.
Students arrive as storytellers and leave as filmmakers — with a finished short film, a real premiere, and a credit they’ll carry into high school and beyond. This is our inaugural cohort — ten students who will have helped shape what Arroyo Stage & Screen becomes.
Week 1 - Stage
Build ensemble through theatre games, improv, scene study, and devising. Collaberatively develop original stories and write the screenplay together.

Week 2 — Screen

Week 1 - Stage
First we build on the methods of professional ensemble theatre. Students work through improv, scene study, and collaborative devising to develop their characters, their world, and their story.
By the end of Week 1, they have a complete screenplay — written collectively, shaped by constraint, and ready to shoot. The writing process mirrors how professional low-budget filmmakers actually work: one location, real time, the cast you have. The constraint is the point — and it tends to unlock something students didn’t know they had.
Week 2 — Screen
We move from the stage to the lens. Students learn how the same scene plays differently through a camera — blocking, coverage, performance scale, and the grammar of film. Then they shoot.
Every student holds a role both in front of and behind the camera: director, DP, AD, actor. The result is a finished short film, edited and ready to screen. Films typically run 3–7 minutes. Each student receives a digital copy of the finished film — a portfolio piece they can submit to high school arts programs, student film festivals, and college applications.
The Premiere
On the evening of August 7, families are invited to Lineage Performing Arts Center’s 78-seat black box theatre for the Arroyo Stage & Screen premiere.
Students walk a red carpet, photographed at a branded photo backdrop. Their films screen on a professional projection system. Your child walks in as a student and walks out as a filmmaker — with a film, a credit, and a story about themselves they didn’t have two weeks ago.
Every family receives a digital copy of their student’s film within one week of the premiere.
